Rooted in repetition, these paintings build through layered marks and patterns that gradually form rhythm across the surface. Inspired by Islamic miniature painting, the works draw on ways of expressing spiritual experience through pattern, color, and mark-making, inviting a slow, immersive way of looking. The process is physical and time-based, embedding duration into the work, while a softness in the handling of color and mark allows the compositions to remain open and fluid. Color and pattern guide the viewer’s attention, allowing the eye to move gently through the painting.

This exhibition takes Looped Futures as both a concept and a method.
Originating from the realization that our path forward is inextricably bound to where we have been, the term describes a navigation of progress shaped not by an arrow’s flight, but by the inevitable return. As T.S. Eliot famously wrote in Four Quartets: “Time present and time past, Are both perhaps present in time future, And time future contained in time past.” (T.S. Eliot, Burnt Norton)

Here, Looped Futures is understood as an extended trajectory where the “new” is often a reconfiguration of the old. It views pauses and repetitions as essential to meaning rather than as interruptions to advancement.
